Madurai: The Tuticorin district police arrested two migrant workers from Assam in connection with a recent attempt to steal money from an ATM machine at Boobalarayapuram in the city. The duo made attempted to break open the ATM machine using a crowbar in the early hours of Monday.
The accused were identified as Thoufiq Ali, 21, and Rasheed Ali, 19, working in a hotel in the city.
They were arrested based on the images captured from the CCTV video footage in the ATM centre. Police said the duo spent over 15 minutes trying to break open the machine.
Police said the images of the thieves were widely circulated throughout the district. They were spotted by a police team who were on two-wheeler patrol and taken to the police station. Inquiries were conducted to ascertain whether they were involved in any other looting incident. The Vadabagam police registered a case.
