Ayurvedic doctor booked for woman friend's suicide

Mohali: After seven months of investigation, a man -- who was found under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday in Phase 1 here -- has been booked in connection with the suicide of Yashomati Sharma (27), a BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) lady doctor at a private hospital here. He has been identified as Nitish Kumar, a resident of Sector 71, also a BAMS doctor who runs his clinic at Kharar, where Yashomati used to help him in her spare time.
Yashomati -- who lived in Mohali's Phase 1 -- belonged to Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. On June 8 afternoon, her body was lying in a room locked from inside. Police sources said that during the investigations, it was found that Nitish was in love with Yashomati, and had promised to marry her, but later refused. She had also came to know that Nitish was in a relationship with another girl, which led to their break-up, followed by her suicide. On the fateful day, Yashomati's friend broke into the room, where she saw her lying unconscious on bed. She rushed her to a private hospital nearby, where the doctors declared her 'brought dead'.
SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said Yashomati's cellphone and laptop were being scanned by detectives to look for more proofs, "though we have enough evidence against the accused, following which he was booked for abetment to suicide." It was also found that calls and messages exchanged during her last hours were also examined, and the police also recovered a syringe. Yashomati -- who was working as a doctor in a private hospital in Mohali for the past three years -- had left her two brothers and parents in Mandi behind her, living alone in Phase 1 in a small room. No suicide note was found on the spot.
Her father Maur Dhawaj said: "Since day one, we had a suspicion that Nitish was responsible for my daughter's death. We have also told the police that Nitish was involved in other illegal activities, and they should probe them."
