KSRTC gets into the act

February 11, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - MYSURU:

In a first, shrill horns fixed on buses that operated on intra-city routes by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) have been removed.

These horns had been installed purportedly by the drivers, who reportedly removed the horns supplied by the manufacturer.

The action was taken following a warning by the city police.

After taking time from the police, the KSRTC authorities in Mysuru got the multi-tone horns removed and install horns that comply with the norms.

Sources told The Hindu that the horns had been replaced in December last.

“We have told the electricians at our depots that they would be held responsible if they fix shrill horns at the insistence of the drivers. At a meeting here last week, the drivers had been strictly told not to install multi-tone horns in their buses,” the sources add.

The police had checked the frequency of horns used in buses and found them emitting high decibel sound and asked for their immediate removal.

A senior police officer told The Hindu that despite being the State Transport Corporation, the buses operated by the KSRTC should not flout norms by using banned horns. “We gave them time to remove and install less decibel horns which they have done it.”

With this, the “noise” pollution from such buses had stopped. Now, the police had shifted its focus on private vehicles using such horns.
