Yakshagana festival for college students on February 22

Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara Law College and Centre for Post Graduate Studies and Research in Law here will host a Yakshagana festival for college students to mark its silver jubilee on the premises of the college on February 22.

In all, seven troupes have confirmed their participation, stated a press release.

The host college students would stage ‘Kadamba Koushike.’

A souvenir —Yaksha Dharma — to mark the college’s silver jubilee would be released. The souvenir would be edited by M. Prabhakara Joshi, a scholar on Yakshagana.

A troupe led by Kadri Navneeth Shetty would present the dramatised version of ‘Kurukshetrakkondu Aayoga,’ a work on the Mahabharata by late Deraje Seetharamaiah, Yakshagana artiste, writer and a farmer.

Mr. Seetharamaiah of Chokkadi, Sulia taluk, was known for his oratory skills in ‘talamaddales.’

The release stated that in the initial years, only four to five troupes participated in the annual Yakshagana festival called ‘Yakshotsava.’

At one stage, a maximum of 14 troupes participated in the annual festival.

Dr. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala, would participate in the valedictory function on the same day.
