The Riyadh-based Islamic Military Alliance, formed by Saudi Arabia to fight extremism, will hold a meeting next month, Al Arabiya TV reports.

CAIRO (Sputnik) – The coalition was formed in December 2015, amid the spread of Islamic State (ISIL) militants in Iraq and Syria.

ISIL, also known as Daesh, is a radical Sunni group prohibited in a range of states, including Russia.

Russia has been launching airstrikes against ISIL targets in Syria at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad since late September.

A US-led international coalition, which includes Saudi Arabia, has been launching airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq and Syria since September 2014.

The Saudi-led anti-terrorism coalition formed in December has over 30 members, including Egypt, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Turkey, Libya, Yemen, Malaysia, and Pakistan.
