The ‘Nava Kerala’ march led by Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan will reach the city on February 14, marking the conclusion of the month-long Statewide campaign calling for a ‘secular, corruption-free and developed’ Kerala.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the party’s district unit secretary Kadakampally Surendran and V. Sivankutty, MLA, said all arrangements were in place for the final leg of the march, which would enter the capital district at Thattathumala, near Kilimanoor, by 6.30 p.m. on February 13. The valedictory function, to be held on the Shangumugham Beach, would be inaugurated by CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury. State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan and Polit Bureau members S. Ramachandran Pillai and M.A. Baby would address the gathering.
With at least two lakh persons expected to be part of the conclusion of the march, Mr. Surendran said the party, apart from coordinating with the City police, would post its own volunteers at all major junctions to avoid traffic issues. Accordingly, volunteers and party office-bearers would be on the streets at Kazhakuttam, Sreekaryam, Kesavadasapuram, Kowdiar, Kuravankonam, Pattom, Palayam, Asan Square, VJT Hall, Killippalam, Attakulangara, Eenchakkal and so on. Mr. Surendran also said volunteers would clean the beach the same night to ensure that it was not left littered.
As part of the conclusion of the march, processions would be organised in all 14 Assembly constituencies in the district on February 12. Motorbike rallies would be held in all local centres on February 13. Party workers would also visit eight lakh homes in the district, distributing pamphlets, on February 12, Mr. Surendran said.
Mr. Surendran said Mr. Vijayan would meet prominent persons from different walks of life in the district from 8.30 a.m. on February 14 at the Thycaud Guest House. The march was flagged off from Kasaragod on January 15 and will have covered receptions and meetings at 126 centres across the State before reaching Thiruvananthapuram.
