Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and premature mortality in the world, contributing to over 17.5 million deaths every year. Lifestyle irregularities are to blame for this drastic increase in the incidence of the disease.
Dr Yogendra Singh from Fortis Hospital, Dehradun, and Dr Kenji Kawajiri from Matsubara Tokushukai Hospital, Japan, came together to address a press conference in this regard here today.
The doctors will use the latest interventional technologies to treat patients suffering from Chronic Total Occlusion, a condition where a hardened 100 per cent block in the coronary artery is formed, causing cardiac pain to the patient on exertion.
Dr Yogendra Singh, Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Fortis Escort Hospital, Dehradun, said “Our modern day lifestyle is to blame for an early onset of heart disease. It is no longer surprising to find patients as young as in their early 30s, suffering from some or the other cardiovascular ailments, a situation that was unimaginable in the past. Early addiction to tobacco, a sedentary lifestyle, poor eating habits and high stress levels are to blame. It is a proud moment for us to welcome Dr Kawajiri to Dehradun. This is for the first time that a Japanese doctor has visited the state. There is a lot we have to learn from Japan, a country known for its low incidence of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)”.
Dr Kenji Kawajiri said “There are several similarities in the lifestyle of the young in both Japan and India. Stress has emerged as a significant contributing factor of unhealthy lifestyle choices across the globe, leading to a progressive increase in the incidence of CAD”.
