In yet another major jolt to the Telugu Desam Party in Telangana, its floor leader in the Assembly E Dayakar Rao and another legislator Prakash Goud today joined the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in the presence of CM K Chandrasekhar Rao.
The development came a day after their party colleague from the city KP Vivekananda Goud switched over to the TRS. With today’s defection, the total number of TDP MLAs joining the TRS since the 2014 General Election has risen to nine. The TDP, headed by N Chandrababu Naidu, had won 15 seats in the 119-member Telangana Assembly in the last elections.
“It is clear that there is no future for the TDP in Telangana. The people have time and again reposed overwhelming confidence in the TRS. In the interests of the state’s development, I am joining TRS,” said Dayakar Rao.
