Air Force Maj. Gen. James Martin is reportedly doing well after he fainted Tuesday during a news conference to unveil the service’s fiscal 2017 budget.
Maj. Gen. Martin, deputy assistant secretary for budget under the Air Force’s Financial Management and Comptroller office, is back to work, “supporting Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James and Chief of Staff General Mark Welsh at the Senate Appropriations hearing” Wednesday, Air Force spokeswoman Maj. Melissa Milner told Air Force Times.
He was discussing the funding for the F-35 fighter jet program in the Pentagon briefing room when he collapsed on the podium. He was caught by Air Force Deputy for Budget Carolyn Gleason, who picked up where he left off and continued the briefing.
“That’s what the F-35 will do to you,” Ms. Gleason said, trying to lighten the mood as other Air Force officials stepped in to help Maj. Gen. Martin, who was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
