Fog reduces visibility, throws train schedule off track

Ludhiana: The thick blanket of fog that engulfed the city delayed many trains on Wednesday.
While Amritsar Express from Delhi was late by more than three hours, Nanded Amritsar Sachkhand Express reached 2 hours 20 minutes behind schedule and Malwa Express, two hours 15 minutes. Shatabdi trains, too, ran around an hour late.
The delay gave passengers a tough time.

"I had to reach Delhi before noon to meet a client. But I missed the meeting as my train was more than an hour late," said Manjeet Singh, a businessman of BRS Nagar.
Fog made driving on city roads difficult too.
"Though my office in Industrial Area is 20 minutes drive from my home, I took an hour today. The visibility was especially poor around the canal," said Akshay Bajaj, a resident of South city.
Officials at Chandigarh meteorological department said the visibility was recorded at 50 metres around 8.30am.

"Western disturbances brought clouds towards the north which picked up moisture, resulting in fog. While the visibility was 50 metres in the morning, it improved to around 1,000 metres in the evening," said Surindra Paul, the department director.
Spelling relief, he added, "Thundery development will reduce fog in the next 48 hours."
