Delhi noise is a joke, says Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, who arrived in India with Robbie Savage yesterday, has been clearly rattled with the noise pollution in the country's capital, New Delhi. (Related: India need a Ronaldo & Drogba: Ferdinand )

Ferdinand became one of the most respected centre-backs in Manchester United's history after spending 12 years at Old Trafford. He appeared in 455 matches for the Reds, scored eight goals and won a staggering six Premier League titles, one European Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup and two League Cups.

The 37-year-old is in the national capital to help organise a workshop for talented local footballers. But like millions of other foreigners, the decibel levels in the city took Ferdinand by surprise.

There have been growing concerns for the alarming increase in pollution levels in New Delhi and the state government, in an effort to curb some of it, had introduced the odd-even rule for private cars from January 1-15.

But Ferdinand, who is on his first India visit, was not complaining. He has in the last 24 hours, enjoyed the different cultures and colours the country has to offer. In fact, he felt the sheer volume of cars and people in India is unreal.

Ferdinand and Savage visited an IOT - Arsenal Soccer Schools centre in Delhi NCR, where they conducted an exclusive training session with the young footballers. The training session was followed by a match between two teams trained by IOT - Arsenal Soccer Schools, Pathways School Gurgaon & Dalhousie Public School, Badhani, which ended 3-3.

Both, Ferdinand & Savage, who are ambassadors for BT, focused on the all round development of children through football, both on and off the field.

Ferdinand said India needed to find superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Didier Drogba to capture the imagination of their youngsters.
