Vandalism at a 100-year-old lido in Gloucestershire has been condemned as "appalling".

Police said vandals broke into the pool in Lydney, which is currently closed for winter, at the weekend.

They smashed items such as guttering, tables and chairs and then threw them into the pool.

PC Henry Davies, from Gloucestershire Police, said: "What happened at the pool is appalling and something that could take a lot of money to repair."

Storerooms were also forced open during the incident but police said they did not know if anything had been taken.

"I think someone in the community is likely to know who did this and I would appeal to them to do the right thing and come forward straight away," the officer added.
