Surat: The identity of all the 42 people, who died in last Friday's bus accident in Navsari district has been established. A Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) bus carrying 66 passengers belonging to different districts of Maharashtra and Gujarat had plunged into Purna river resulting in the death of 42 people and injuries to 24 others.
The injured are receiving treatment in different hospitals of Surat city and Navsari town. One patient each is in Mission Hospital and Apple Hospital, two patients each in Mahavir Hospital and SMIMER Hospital of Surat whereas 17 others are undergoing treatment in different hospitals of Navsari town. One patient is admitted in Lilawati Hospital in Mumbai. Among the injured, only three are above 30 years of age. All others are mostly students of different colleges in Navsari.
Navsari district authorities said 11 deceased were from Surat, 15 from Navsari, seven from Tapi and two from Valsad. Besides, six victims were from Nandurbar and Dhule districts of Maharashtra and one was from Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh.
Navsari district collector Remya Mohan said, "Government compensation has already been given to the respective district collectors to be handed over to the next of kin of the deceased. The compensation cheque will be reaching the victim's kin in Allahabad soon. We are concentrating on providing best treatment possible to the injured."
