NEW DELHI: Dabang Mumbai dealt a serious blow to Delhi Waveriders' semifinals hopes by handing the hosts an 8-3 thrashing in the HIL at the Shivaji Stadium here on Tuesday.
Delhi, who suffered their fourth straight defeat, crashed to the bottom of the points table. The win helped Mumbai take the fourth position and stay alive for the last four stage.
It was brilliant performance by the visitors who were trailing 0-3 at one time of the match.
They made a remarkable comeback slamming four field goals (8 goals according to new rules) in the last quarter to dash Delhi's hopes of ending their losing streak.
Delhi are on 17 points with two of their matches remaining. Mumbai moved up to 19 points with three games remaining. Ranchi Rays and Kalinga Lancers are first and second respectively. Delhi began the match on an attacking note and took the lead when Steven Edwards scored a field goal in the 22nd minute to give the hosts 2-0 lead.
