“It was a roller-coaster ride from day one with loads of excitement still vibrating in my veins. All I can say is wow is happening here at Curro.”

Mr Nico Bronkhorst (Operational Head – High School) plays a little tug of war with Curro Bankenveld’s head girl Kelly Mackenzie, and head boy Codi Naidoo on the newly built Astroturf.

“The teaching profession is a calling and yes it sounds like a cliché but you are in this profession to make a difference in children’s lives. The learners look up to us. At Curro we have a learner-centred approach in education. We aim to create an environment where all learners have the opportunity to grow to their full potential in all aspects of life,” he said.

With the advancements in technology and the schools taking on these advancements there has been quite some change in teaching, one could say it has evolved, here’s Nico’s thoughts on the matter.

“The old fashioned ‘chalk and board’ will always form part of a teacher’s educational tools. Combine that with the 21st century approach to teaching with tablets in the class and Curro have a recipe for success.”

Nico’s first steps to education started right here in eMalahleni he went from Laerskool Kragbron to Hoërskool Generaal Hertzog and then finished his B.Com degree at the PUKKE.
His teaching career started at the TUT back in 1994. He did his B.Com Honours through Unisa and then joined the wonderful Cambridge team in Witbank where he gained valuable experience over the last 16 years.

“Late in 2015 I got the opportunity to join the very dynamic team of Curro Bankenveld. I already feel at home in my new environment. The staff at Curro made it very easy for me to fit in and I am looking forward to all the great opportunities that we may face,” he ended.
