SRINAGAR: The BJP brass has deputed party general secretary Ram Madhav to meet PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar on February 13 for discussions on the long-delayed government formation in Jammu & Kashmir.
The state has been under governor’s rule since the death of former CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7. Mehbooba has set fresh conditions to continue the coalition with BJP, and it’s to address these that Madhav is meeting her.
Mehbooba has accused BJP of choking the state of funds during her father’s government. She also wants more political freedom to deal with the separatists, and wants the Centre to desist from “curtailing” the activities of Hurriyat members.
Madhav, a confidant of PM Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah, will apprise the PDP leadership of the measures taken by BJP vis-à-vis the fresh conditions.
Ahead of his arrival, state BJP officials, including former deputy CM Nirmal Singh, are set for a trip to Delhi for a meeting with Shah, where the future course of action will be chalked out, a BJP source said.
