Jhajjar: 2 students dead, 43 hurt in mishap

Police have registered a case against drivers of both the buses.

Two students died and around 43 persons were injured after a school bus had a head-on collision with another bus near Daboda village, Bahadurgarh Tehsil, in Jhajjar.

The deceased have been identified as Sweety (13), a student of Class VII, and Jyoti (16), a student of Class X. Both were residents of Goyala Kalan village.

The incident took place around 7.45 am when the school bus of Mount View Public School was heading towards Bahadurgarh after ferrying students from several villages.

The bus was overtaking trucks when it collided head-on with a private bus coming from Bahadurgarh and going towards Jhajjar. As per the police, the visibility was less due to fog.

Following the accident, Sweety died on the spot, while Jyoti died in hospital. The postmortem was conducted and bodies handed over to the families. A pall of gloom descended on Goyala Kalan village following the accident.

Apart from the students who were injured, some passengers in the other bus also received injuries. The driver of the private bus, Sunil, fled from the spot leaving the bus. Police are searching for him.

The driver of the school bus is admitted in a hospital. The injured students were admitted to different hospitals.

While some were admitted at the Trauma Centre in Bahadurgarh, three students were referred to PGIMS Rohtak and two were referred to Delhi. The condition of one girl is stated to be serious. The Haryana roadways buses that were passing from the area took the injured to hospitals.

Station House Office, Police Station Sadar, Bahadurgarh, Bijender Singh said, “The school bus was overtaking trucks and due to the fog did not see the bus approaching from the other side. The injured were admitted to different hospitals. A case has been registered against both drivers. The driver of the private bus is absconding. Looking at the condition of the bus, he would have received injuries and would
require treatment.”
