Araria: Over 15,000 quintal of foodgrain meant for distribution among PDS beneficiaries have gone missing from State Food Corporation (SFC) godowns in different blocks of the district. The matter came to light during random checks conducted at SFC godowns in different blocks. Officials said the estimated cost of the missing foodgrain stood at more than Rs 5 crore.
Araria DM Himanshu Sharma said the district administration had sealed eight State Food Corporation (SFC) godowns on Saturday night and constituted a team for physical stock verification. "The team found shortage of about 15,000 quintal of foodgrain in Raniganj, Araria and other places of the district," the DM said. Sharma said an SFC godown in Raniganj block with a capacity of storing 5,000 MT foodgrain used to show the stock as much as 12,000 MT.
