MUMBAI: Mumbai University has decided to acquire an aircraft in order to train students in soon-to-be introduced B Sc Aviation and commercial pilot training courses.
The course, in alignment with the centre’s Skill-India Campaign, will be launched in the coming academic session at university’s Garware Institute of Career Education and Development at Kalina. The university will be starting the course in association with the Bombay Flying Club.
While the decision of buying the aircraft was approved in the management council meeting on Tuesday, the details are not yet finalised.
The course will be in alignment with the central government’s Skill India Mission, said the university’s deputy registrar Leeladhar Bansod.
Another official said that the university had plans to buy an aircraft in 2009 for the Ratnagiri sub-campus. However, the plan never took off due to several permissions. The scope of work will include all activities necessary to carry out aviation training. Initially 60 to 120 students can be registered for this course.
