The meeting of the MLAs of Congress was held in circuit house here today to discuss the agenda of this main opposition party in the state during the upcoming budget session of the Gujarat Assembly slated to be held from February 22.
Talking to newsmen after the meeting, leader of opposition Shankersinh Vaghela, who chaired the meeting, said that the issue of a private member bill for reservation on economic grounds was also discussed.
‘We will raise issues like corruption, deteriorating law and order situation, drinking water crisis in Saurashtra region and unabated price rise of essential commodities in the upcoming session. Other subjects concerning common people in different parts of the state would also be taken up prominently,’ Mr. Vaghela said.
He said that despite the stress on prolonging the sessions of various legislative bodies for taking up more and more issues concerning people during the recently concluded presiding officers meet here which was also attended by Lok Sabha speaker Mrs Sumitra Mahajan, the length of this budget session (of 26 days) was shorter by a day in comparison to that of the last year.
The meeting was also attended by former state president of the party Mr. Arjun Modhwadia. However, an ailing Bharatsinh Solanki (current state head of the party) could not attend the meeting.
The ruling BJP is also going to organize a similar meet of its legislatures which would be attended by Chief Minister Mrs. Anandiben Patel here this evening to discuss its strategy.
