Narayankhed bypoll: introduce ballot paper, TTDP urges EC

February 09, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 02:28 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telangana Telugu Desam Party has urged the Election Commission of India to take steps to use ballot papers or voter verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) in the forthcoming by-election to Narayankhed Assembly constituency.

In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer, TTDP president L. Ramana said there were doubts among the people regarding the misuse or probable tampering of the electronic voting machines in the recently held Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. Several candidates of the opposition parties, particularly the TDP expressed their doubts over the voting process through the EVMs.

“Therefore, we have serious doubts that the constitutional provisions are being violated and believe that things are not in appropriate order as far as the elections in Telangana are concerned,” he said. He recalled how TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu appealed for the national debate on the use of EVMs in the 2009 elections and the BJP also expressed its doubts over the tamper proof nature of the EVMs.
