Bus service needed

A large number of people from Sivathapuram, Kondalampatti, Seelanayakkanpatti travel to Ayodhyapattanam every day. There is no adequate city bus service from these places to Ayodhyapattanam. I request the TNSTC to introduce city bus services from New Bus Stand to Ayodhyapattanam via Tiruvakavundanur bypass road, Sivathapuram bypass road, Kondalampatti bypass road and Seelanayakkanpatti bypass road.

Re-lay roads

The Corporation has already completed the underground drainage pipe laying works in Chairman Sadagopan street. But the roads which were dug up for the UGD project have not been re-laid so far and this causes much hardship to the vehicle users and pedestrians. I request the Corporation to re-lay the roads here immediately.

Need better

display boards

The train timings display board at Salem Railway junction only mentions from and to destinations of the trains with train numbers. The trains for the same destination take different routes. The people are confused as they do not know through which route a particular train proceeds. The railways could mention the names of a couple of major railway stations through which the train will be passing through and this will immensely benefit the commuters who are not regular travellers.

Baggage scanners

The installation of baggage scanner at the Arulmigu Suvaneswarar Temple in Salem city is a good news. This will immensely relieve both the devotees, police and the temple authorities. The Government should commission similar baggage scanners in all the major temples in the district to create confidence in the minds of the people.

Hike pension

I thank the government for providing a monthly assistance of Rs. 1,500 to the traditional artistes who contributed a lot for the promotion of art and culture in different parts of the State. But this is a paltry sum and the poor artistes will not be able to make both ends meet. The government should hike the monthly pension to Rs. 3,000 per month.

Bus shelter needed

A large number of people travel from Krishnagiri to Pochampalli via Jagadevi, Thogarapalli, Mathur, Uthangarai. They wait in the open to board the buses at the bus stop at Tiruvannamalai road. Absence of bus shelter here is posing much hardship to senior citizens, women and children. I request the authorities to construct a bus shelter here.

R. Kanmani,

Uthangarai.

Construct pay-and-use toilets

The people waiting at Attur bus stand to board buses have converted the open space near the back entrance of the bus stand into an open toilet. The bad odour emanating from here is something unbearable. Moreover, this also poses a big health hazard. I request the Attur Municipality to construct pay-and-use toilets in this open ground to dissuade the people from using it as an open urinal.

S. Sivakumar,

Attur.

Set up speed breaker

The vehicles proceed at a high speed at the Vazhappadi Belur road – Salem road junction near Vazhappadi town. Due to this, many accidents take place at this junction regularly. I request the concerned authorities to set up a speed breaker at the Salem road at this junction.

G. Rajamani,

Vazhappadi.

Unhygienic conditions

Stray pigs are roaming freely in Mullaivadi, Ambedkar nagar, Pudupettai areas in Attur town, posing a health hazard to the residents. Moreover, people running meat stalls in these areas deposit the wastes indiscriminately in the open. The Attur Municipality should take steps to stop this.

B. Ramanan,

Attur.

Install information boards

The railways stations in Rasipuram, Namakkal etc have boards prominently displaying the details of the nearby important towns, temples, tourist spots etc. Similar boards displaying the details of tourist spots like Yercaud, important temples, should be displayed in Salem Junction and Salem Town Railway Station too.

Need independent

monitoring committee

While it is gratifying to

note that Coimbatore has been selected for Smart City project in the first list itself along with Chennai, we have to take into consideration the present situation of institutionalised corruption pervading every government department. Irrespective of which political party is in power, this

massive phenomenon of systematised and well ordered corruption has already taken deep roots at all levels. It is usually said that only a very meagre and negligible percentage of money allotted for welfare measures reaches the people.

When crores of rupees are sanctioned by the Central and State governments, the middlemen such as contractors in collusion with many government servants and others may misappropriate huge sums of money. The fabricated records with skilfully manipulated data will save them from getting caught and punished. There should be an independent, non political, high powered and honest committee to closely monitor the activities of all those concerned in executing the projects and programmes under Smart Cities Mission.
