‘Bank staff’ siphons money from 2 accounts

An unidentified person, who posed as a bank employee, withdrew cash from two accounts after getting the account holders’ PIN numbers.

He reportedly withdrew Rs. 16,500 and Rs. 50,000 from the two accounts on thesame day.

In a complaint given to Superintendent of Police A. Saravanan here on Monday, farmer Vijayalakshmi from Pallanatham village in Vedsandur block stated that a person contacted her on Saturday through phone stating that her ATM card had expired.

To renew the card, her PIN number was needed, the caller said. When she revealed the details to him, she got the message stating that cash Rs. 16,500 was withdrawn from her account.

A similar complaint was lodged by Easwaran, an employee of Vedasandur Sub-Court. He lost Rs. 50,000 from his account.
