Nashik: The Central Railway has decided to install three coin-operated ticket vending machines at the Nashik Road and Deolali railway stations by next week.
Moreover, the machines will also be installed across important stations on the Central Railway route for the convenience of passengers. The Bhusawal division will get 24 such machines at its major stations.
"At present, we have decided to install two machines at the Nashik Road railway station near the current booking office. These machines will be close to the main entrance of the station," a Central Railway official said.
Currently, two automatic ticket vending machines are already in place at the station, which help passengers book tickets with the help of smart cards.
The smart cards can either be owned by an individual or the railways has notified a few people to book tickets for the passengers using the smart card.
However, the commuters have to depend on the availability of cards. Besides, there are other issues such as paying the exact change to the card holder. Hence, people will be able to tickets on their own with the help of coin-operated ticket vending machines and avoid such hassles.

"The passengers can book tickets on their own for the desired routes without depending on anybody," the official said.
"It will be great. We have seen such machines in Mumbai. It will be of great help to the passengers, who are not daily commuters. Besides, it will also help the passengers get tickets at the last moment before boarding the trains," said Sanket Shah, a commuter.
In the meantime, railway officials claimed that the move would bring down the dependency on the staff for vending tickets.
"The current booking process is hardly anything else than giving tickets in exchange of money. There have been a number of occasions when the ticket vending clerk and the passengers enter into an argument over the non-availability of change. During rush hours, commuters are either forced to go out and fetch money or forgo the remaining amount. This will not be the case any longer. There will hardly be any issues since the machines will trade with exact fare," said Rohini Agale, another commuter.
The railway official said the move would further help in reducing stress on the manpower. "There was a time when every ticket was booked through a regular process. But the procedure has been replaced by the online ticket booking system to a large extent. We now have janata booking kiosks in the city as well as coin-operated ticket vending machines, which will further reduce stress on the booking clerks," the official added.
