Guwahati: India has the potential to do well in the Asian Games and even Olympics, said Bidyalaxmi Tourangbam, the cyclist from Manipur, who had opened the medal account for the country in the ongoing 12th edition of South Asian Games.
"We have the potential to do well. Just our players need to be a bit more focused on the game. And yes, if we can have some better equipment, we would see better results.
Games like cycling depends on the kind of equipment we use," Bidyalaxmi told TOI on Monday.
So far, India has won five gold medals in cycling.
Bidyalaxmi has won two in the women's 30-km individual time trial event and 40-km team time trial final, while her team-mate Arvind Panwar has also won two gold in men's category.
Bidyalaxmi, an employee of Northeastern Frontier Railways, however, is thankful to her support staff. "The team management has been extremely supportive and helpful. We had some rigorous training sessions in Shillong before the Games started. And I think that is why we are seeing better results," said Bidyalaxmi.

On Tuesday, Bidyalaxmi will participate in the 80-km individual road race.
When asked about other players from her state, Bidyalaxmi said it was unfortunate that most of the Manipuri players had to undergo so much hardship and overcome so many difficulties.
"We have some amazing talents in different disciples. There are some good talents in cycling, as well. But the unfortunate part is that due to poverty, many young players have to give up their passion. If these players receive even a little bit of support, Manipur can produce more world champions," she said.
Once the Games come to an end, Bidyalaxmi and team will head for Kerala to participate in the national championships.
