A 55-year-old woman was trampled to death by a tusker in a forest under Sundargarh forest division on Monday.Police recovered the body and sent it to Sundargarh hospital for postmortem.

Rourkela: A 55-year-old woman was trampled to death by a tusker in a forest under Sundargarh forest division on Monday. Police recovered the body and sent it to Sundargarh hospital for postmortem. The deceased was identified as Sabitri Sa.
According to police, Sabitri, a native of Amasdighi village, along with two women and a man had gone to Amasdighi forest to collect Sal leaf.
When they were returning, the tusker came in the way. While three persons ran away from the spot, Sabitri could not escape. The three persons informed the nearby villagers, forest officials and police about the incident. Dharuadihi police reached the spot.
According to the provision, her family members will get 3 lakh towards compensation. "We have given 5,000 to her family for her funeral rites. Rest 2.95 lakh will be released after completion of necessary formalities," said range officer, Sadar Forest Range, Sundargarh, D K Digal.
