Baripada: Tribals in Mayurbhanj district today joined others in appealing to Maoists to release the abducted Malkangiri Collector and a junior engineer.

About 300 tribals, including women, assembled in an Anganwadi centre at Sorishpala of the district and sought early release of R V Krishna, calling him tribal-friendly who worked for them when he was posted as Assistant Collector in Bangiriposhi block in 2006.

Krishna used to visit their villages in the foothills of the Similipal Tiger Reserve by motorbike and tried to solve their problems, they said.

He has taken up programmes like identification of orphans and their rehabilitation, construction of roads and digging of canals in inaccessible areas of the tribal-dominated areas.

"We fervently appeal to the abductors to ensure safe and early release of the tribal-friendly administrator," they added.
