Gani Memorial, Radpora stadium to be upgraded

SRINAGAR, Feb 8: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone today chaired an officers meeting to review the measures being taken for upgradation and development of sports infrastructure in Government educational institutions of the district.
He also took stock of works being carried out for the upgradation of Gani Memorial and Radpora Stadia in Shahr-i-Khaas.
Among others, Joint Director Planning, District Youth Service and Sports Officer, Engineers of Sports Council and Drainage and Sewerage departments were present in the meeting.
Deputy Commissioner stressed on the officers to ensure better sports facilities for the youth in the district.
While reviewing the works going on for upgradation of Gani Kashmiri Memorial and Radpora stadia, the Deputy Commissioner was informed that an amount of Rs 1.45 crore have been released during current fiscal. He was also informed that for upgradation of Radpora Sewerage system Rs 50 lakh has been sanctioned so far.
Dr Lone directed the officers to ensure use of quality material with better seating arrangement in the stadiums. He also gave directions to construct boundary walls around both the stadiums.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner convened meeting with Principals of various Higher Secondary Schools of the district and other officers.
Deputy Commissioner was informed that for the promotion of sports activities in Government educational institutions various initiatives are being taken and in this regard Astro turf facility is being provided in various higher secondary schools of Srinagar.
The DC was further informed that in Kothibagh and Soura Girls Higher Secondary Schools, Basketball courts will be developed while Volleyball courts are being constructed in SP, MP Sonwar and Chattabal Higher Secondary Schools for which Rs 96 lakh have been sanctioned so that better sports infrastructure is provided to the students.
