Samajwadi Party celebratory firing kills 8-year-old boy in Shamli

Shamli locals protested on Monday over the death of an eight-year-old boy, who fell victim to reckless celebratory firing after a Samajwadi Party-backed candidate’s victory in local election in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district on Sunday.

MEERUT/LUCKNOW: Shamli locals protested on Monday over the death of an eight-year-old boy, who fell victim to reckless celebratory firing after a Samajwadi Party-backed candidate’s victory in local election in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district on Sunday.
Nafisa’s supporters started firing as soon as she was declared the winner in the Kairana block head election in Shamli.

The slain boy, Shami, was travelling with his aunt in an e-rickshaw when a bullet hit him. He was rushed to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Locals blocked the Panipat-Khatima highway on Monday to protest against the killing.
“Block pramukh Nafisa has been expelled from the party and a show-cause notice has been served on Kairana MLA Nahid Hasan seeking explanation regarding the alleged hooliganism by his supporters on Monday when journalists visited his house for his reaction to Sunday’s firing incident,” said SP spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary.
Shamli SDM, deputy SP and the inspector in-charge for have been suspended on UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav instruction for failing to prevent the firing.
UP police chief Javeed Ahmed said that they have arrested three accused while efforts were on to arrest the remaining culprits.
