Earlier, the district administration had served her a notice, asking her to vacate the government land in Badakiapala and Sankiapala mouza of Gop tehsil in Puri district. But even after the mandatory notice period, she didn’t vacate the land, which includes government ponds, gochhar and anabadi land. Ranjana Gajbhiye was engaged in pisciculture in the encroached area.

In October, the home department had started departmental proceedings against Gajbhiye, accusing him of purchasing 8.506 acres of land in Puri district in the name of his wife in 2012-13, but not declaring it in his immovable property returns for 2012, 2013 and 2014. It also accused him of encroaching government land. “It has caused huge embarrassment to the administration and also to the member of the service,” the chargesheet said.
