Rice hosts free hands-only CPR training event

More than 150 members of the Houston community came to Rice Stadium Feb. 6 for free hands-only CPR training as part of the “Texas Two-Step: How to Save a Life Campaign.” Participants were taught to perform two steps: Call 911 and begin hands-only CPR by pushing hard and fast on the center of the unconscious person’s chest. They were able to practice on mannequins during the training at Rice. Lisa Basgall, director of Rice Emergency Medical Services (REMS), and undergraduates from REMS hosted the training with help from medical students and emergency physicians. Former REMS member Faroukh Mehkri ’11 spearheaded the statewide effort. (Photos by Jeff Fitlow)
