Following Union Minister and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan’s call for President’s Rule in Bihar in view of “deteriorating law and order situation”, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Monday dared the NDA government at the Centre to impose President’s Rule in the state.

Speaking at a public function ahead of the bypoll at Harlakhi Assembly segment, Lalu said: “Kiski majaal hai ki Bihar me Rashtrapati shashan laye (who can dare to impose President’s Rule in Bihar). Those criticising law and order should give details of law and order in other states. Our government has been functioning well.”

Reacting to the probe into LJP leader Brijnathi Singh’s murder, the RJD chief said police are thoroughly investigating the case. “The guilty would not be spared. But the Opposition is trying to create confusion. They did not gain anything by invoking the jungle raj slur against us in the Assembly polls. But they are still trying to gain political mileage by making similar allegations,” he said.

Lalu Prasad’s younger son and Deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav said: “Our critics and political opponents should also appreciate our good work. Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswanji should also talk of law and order situation in BJP-ruled states. Rather than encouraging negativity in Bihar, they should learn to appreciate.”

Paswan on Sunday visited the family of LJP leader Brijnathi Singh, who was recently murdered. Speaking to reporters on Monday, he said law and order had gone for a toss in Bihar and criminals were moving with “AK-47 without the fear of police”.

Festive offer

He added that the situation warranted President’s Rule and demanded CM Nitish Kumar’s resignation as “doctors, engineers, businessmen and others” were not “feeling safe in re-run of jungle raj in Bihar”. The LJP chief also pointed out that Brijnathi’s son had called the murder a “political killing”.

Meanwhile, sources said Paswan, who represents Hajipur in Parliament, was upset at the state government for not inviting him for a function to mark the onset of work for Ganga bridge construction project.
