A woman was dragged into an alleyway and raped in an attack that may have involved up to four men, police have said.

The 23-year-old was grabbed from behind on Tennyson Road, in Colne, Lancashire, just before 23:00 GMT on Saturday.

Lancashire Police said the woman was dragged into an alleyway near Slater Avenue, where "possibly two or three" men were waiting.

Det Ch Insp Joanne McHugh said it was believed to be an "isolated incident".

She said she wanted hear from anyone who saw "a group of men acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the attack".

She added the woman had "been through an extremely traumatic experience" and was being supported by specially-trained officers.
