BEIRUT: Ogero's employees went on strike Monday to protest against the delay in salary payments, urging the Cabinet to transfer funds owed to the state-owned telecom company.

Employees staged two-hour sit-ins across Ogero's departments in Lebanon from 10 a.m. till 12 p.m., warning that they will take escalatory measures if the Cabinet fails to meet their demands.

This is the second sit-in organized by the employees in less than month.

"It is unacceptable that the employees of this productive sector, which brings in revenues to pay the wages of all state employees, don't obtain their salaries," head of Ogero's union of employees George Stephan told a news conference as the protests were taking place.

Stephan called on employees of the Telecom Ministry and Ogero to protest Wednesday outside the government's headquarters in downtown Beirut to urge the Cabinet to approve the transfer of funds.
