Mudragada calls off fast as Govt concede demands

Kakinada Feb 8 (UNI): Kapunadu leader Mudragada Padmanabham called off his four day old fast unto death stir this afternoon, following talks with him at his residence by state government emissaries. The emisseries Kala Venkatrao, Andhra Pradesh state unit President of ruling Telugu Desam Party(TDP) and Achennaidu Labour Minister conceded his major demands. The emissaries along with MLAs Thota Trimurtulu, SVVS Varma and MLC Boddu Bhaskararao held in camera discussions with the Kapu leader for over one- and-a half- hours and brought to a happy end the agitation for reservation. . Kala Venkata rao offered lime juice to Mudragada. Later, he told newspersons that their talks were fruitful and Mudragada had agreed to a compromise formula put before him.
‘The government has agreed to limit the deadline for Manjunatha Commission to submit its report to clear nine months from the date of the cabinet decision appointing it. The Kapu corporation would be allocated Rs.1,000 crore in every annual budget hereafter .However for the present period the corporation would be given another Rs.500 Crores in addition to Rs.100 Crores already allotted. Regarding the cases in connection with the January 31 violent incidents, in depth investigation will be conducted and innocent people will be spared from cases’ he added. Mudragada Padmanabham, who appears greatly relieved while thanking the emissaries for bringing about a happy ending to the problem, expressed his regrets to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for making personal comments against him. He said his aim as to ensure justice to his kapu community as such during the agitation he might have caused some inconvenience to him and the government but not intentional
He renewed his appeal to Chief Minister to render justice to poor kapu people by expediting the process of their inclusion in BC status. He wanted the Chief Minister to get the Assembly pass a resolution basing on the commission’s report and submit the same to the Central government for incorporating the same in section 9 of the constitution according BC status to Kapus, at the earliest.
