“I’ve been saying inappropriate things since I was a kid,” says comic Nikki Glaser. “I want to try everything. I’ve always been interested in sex — but I was a virgin until I was 21!”
Perhaps making up for lost time, Glaser is hosting “Not Safe with Nikki Glaser” — premiering Tuesday night on Comedy Central — in which she’ll delve into taboo topics with a range of comedian friends. Joining her will be her apparently up-for-anything boyfriend, Chris Convy, who co-created the show.
“I’ll explore the modern state of sex and dating, navigating through my own relationship, talking to other people about their sex lives,” says the 31-year-old Cincinnati native, who co-hosted MTV’s “Nikki & Sara Live” with fellow comic Sara Schaefer in 2013.
In an advance clip, Glaser employs a polygraph test to see which of her comedian friends wants to sleep with her. (Spoiler: a lot of them.)
In other episodes, she says, “I’m going to help guys ‘up’ their d–k pics — I hired a photographer who had never shot d–ks specifically, so he didn’t know what he was in for.” She attends a foot fetish party, too. “I just want to open people’s eyes to different things,” she says. “The people at this party, they have it pretty good. Every bare foot, to them, is like Beyoncé!
“And wanted to test out an open relationship,” she says, “so I interviewed girls who could possibly date my boyfriend.” Despite using the super-sketchy venue of Craigslist, Glaser reports that “They were all cool chicks! I ended up picking one, and he’s going to go on a date with her.”
Glaser’s gleeful sex riffing is a trait she shares with close friend Amy Schumer, with whom she performed in the 2013 standup special “Women Who Kill.” Both have been called “sex comics,” a label Glaser says Schumer nailed with her comment that “When a guy comic takes his d–k out, people will say, ‘He’s a thinker.’”
Glaser says the “Trainwreck” star has always been a helpful foil when it comes to dating. “I would have a crush on some comedian in our circle, and she would say, ‘Ew. Gross. You’re not allowed.’ She would start bombarding me with the worst pictures of him she could find.” If either was trying to get over a guy, she says, “the other person would just find images of them where they looked disgusting. To the point where you couldn’t be attracted to them anymore.”
So what happens if Glaser works through all her sex issues in “Not Safe”? Not to worry, she’s got a plan.
“You know what makes people more uncomfortable than sex? Talking about how we’re all going to die.
“That’s my next big thing: Death!”
