TV tonight: 'Castle' returns, 'Jane the Virgin'

USA TODAY

Wild Wild West/Rush Hour
Cinemax, 8:10 ET/PT

Rogelio (Jaime Camil) and Jane (Gina Rodriguez) are dealing with relationship issues.

Think of this double-feature as a probably unintentional commentary on the ebb and flow of pop culture between TV and film. Start with Wild Wild West, a sadly mediocre remake of a much more enjoyable CBS series — and then move into Rush Hour, an enjoyable movie that CBS has remade into a sadly mediocre pilot, as you'll see next month.

Jane the Virgin

CW, 9 ET/PT

The course of true love hits a few more road bumps on this highly enjoyable comic soap, starting with our Jane — whose professor (guest star Adam Rodriguez) is suddenly popping up in her dreams. As usual, however, Rogelio (Jaime Camil) has bigger, or at least grander, problems. He wants to propose to Xo (Andrea Navedo), but thanks to Mateo, he no longer has the ring.

Castle
ABC, 10 ET/PT

Castle returns from its winter break with a new guest (High School Musical’s Corbin Bleu), a new murder set in the world of a cappella competitions, and another new permutation for its lead characters’ relationship. Having spent the fall estranged, Castle and Beckett have reconciled, but are keeping that a secret. Meaning they’re pretending to hate each other in public while being secretly in love in private, which either counts as a clever story-telling twist or as deeply ironic.
