NASHIK: The labourers across the district are taking up daily wages job with the government under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and the number is rising, Collector of Nashik, Deependra Singh Kushwah, said.
He added that the numbers of labourers benefitting from the scheme in December stood at 1,500 per day but that average has now gone up to 4,300 and the administration has ensured all measures to see that there is no dearth of work for the labourers who demand the same.

The administration today has 12,000 works on shelf life across all the villages in the district that can generate more than73 lakh mandays.
“The last drive – kaam mango abhiyan – conducted by the administration in the month of December witnessed 8,000 registering themselves and 3,000 did not take up the job. We have decided to seek answers why they failed – was it because of migration or because they had alternate jobs,” Collector said.
The collector also pointed out that the administration was considering launching another drive of ‘kaam mango abhiyan’ among the rural pockets, the tribal areas on priority.
The forthcoming drive will also cancel all the registrations in the earlier camps and seek afresh registration by all those who want work. The drive is intended at gathering at least 15,000 registrations and with the prevailing conditions and the future ones, the administration expects more than 10,000 as turn out on the jobs.
The administration will also closely monitor the salary and other aspects given to the labourers so that there are minimum or no issues about the payments and the works to be allotted and carried out thorugh MGNREGA.
