Kolkata: Narayana Superspeciality Hospital at Howrah comes up cancer support cell with the aim of raising fund for treatment of cancer patients. On world cancer day on February 4, the hospital also organized a cancer survivors’ meet where cancer survivors treated at the hospital and their families interacted with doctors. The meet was aimed at giving out the information on malignancy, help the patients face challenges with confidence.

“Narayana Health has been associated with serving the unmet needs of the community for more than fifteen years now. The introduction of Narayana Superspeciality Hospital located at Howrah, is an important milestone for quality Cancer treatment in the region. As a group we have always believed in empowering our patients and the Cancer Support Cell is an effort in the same direction,” said Deepak Venugopalan, zonal director (east) Narayana Health.
Experts deliberated on issues like prevention, coping with diagnosis of cancer, its treatment, causes of different cancer types, treatment options for advanced cancer, how to manage with cancer and lead a healthy life etc. Speaking on a range of cancer related aspects was a team of specialists including Dr. Suman Mallik, Dr Arunansu Kar, Dr Jyotirup Goswami, Dr Sourav Dutta, Dr Arunava Roy, Dr Abay Kumar, Dr Basab Bagchi and Dr Adish Basu.
The cancer support cell will focus on organizing financial assistance for poor patients through individual or corporate donations. It will also approach and coordinated with government organizations such as office of the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, Governor, the state health department etc. for the purpose.
The cancer survivors who came together for the meet shared their experiences to help others manage the physical and emotional challenges. Meeting someone who was affected by the malady and has recovered can encourage the others to understand and manage the situation in a better way. A patient suffering from the dreadful disease can share a comfort talk with the real hero who fought and survived it.
