Fans voted Butler basketball’s Jaelynn Penn the winner of The Courier-Journal Metro Louisville Athlete of the Week Award presented by Norton Sports Health.

The junior guard scored 17 points to lead the Bearettes to a 68-54 victory over Male in the final of the Louisville Invitational Tournament on Jan. 30. Penn received the Joyce Seymour Award as the top offensive player in the tournament.

Last week’s other nominees included Fairdale’s Korey Tipton, Bullitt Central’s Cameron Dukes and St. Xavier’s Will Olsen.

Tipton posted 34 points and 17 rebounds in an 83-75 loss to Jeffersontown on Jan. 28. Tipton averaged 24 points and 12.3 rebounds as the Bulldogs went 2-1 last week.

Dukes scored 39 points in a 76-75 overtime loss to DeSales on Jan. 30 in the King of the Bluegrass Showcase at Fairdale. Dukes averaged 33 points as the Cougars went 2-1 last week and also scored the 1,000th point of his career.

Olsen had 20 points and five rebounds to lead the Tigers to a 61-57 victory at Ballard on Jan. 29.

Each Monday afternoon, four new athletes will be posted here as nominees for the Athlete of the Week Award. Voting runs through 8 p.m. Sunday. The winners will be invited to the year-end Courier-Journal Courier-Journal Kentuckiana Sports Awards Program banquet presented by Norton Sports Health.
