Music lovers of Ballari had a rare cultural treat at a Hindustani concert here on Saturday night. Ustad Rais Bale Khan and Ustad Hafiz Bale Khan, sons of the late Bale Khan, sitar maestro, enthralled the audience with their sitar recital.

The duo played the sitar for nearly an hour exhibiting their mastery before switching over to singing during the second half.

They rendered ‘daasa keertans’ and ‘vachanas’ to win the applause of the audience.

“Our forefathers were into singing and their successors, from the fourth generation onwards took up playing sitar. Now we are reintroducing singing into family starting from our generation,” Hafiz told The Hindu .

Harshada Dharmavaram, disciple of Hafiz, accompanied them on the harmonium and Shailesh Shenai on the tabla.
