I have made some mistakes out of ignorance: Anupama

She's just a film old, but Anupama Parameswaran has already seen the highs and lows of fame.
Social media fell in love with her curls and cuteness soon after film Premam's songs released, but did a U-turn and bashed her for repeated appearances on TV shows post the release. Nevertheless, the film industry took note of her talent and Mary of 'Premam' has bagged three plum projects in Telugu.
In conversation with Anupama, who has taken both bouquets and brickbats in her stride'
Why the decision to move to Tollywood soon after your first movie in Malayalam?
Malayalam is still my priority! It's just that when good opportunities came from Telugu I didn't want to let them go. I have been listening to scripts in Malayalam, but for some reason, all aspects are not falling into place. I am just waiting to sign the right film in Mollywood.
Your 'dhaavani' look in Premam's Telugu remake 'Majnu' was trending on social media for quite a while'
Oh God'! First, let me clarify that they are NOT pics from my Telugu movie! Shoot for my portions in 'Majnu' will begin only in March (laughs). The pictures that are being circulated as my look in the movie were clicked randomly. Someone with an aspiration to make the posts viral had uploaded them.
Tell us about the characters you are playing in Telugu
Trivikram Srinivas' A'Aa, Yevado Okadu directed by Venu Sri Ram and Premam's Telugu remake Majnu, helmed by Chandoo Mondeti are my projects in Tollywood. I am not allowed to talk about my characters, but you can expect distinct performances from me, I assure you. None of them are what you would call 'glamour roles'. I really want to play characters that are bold and courageous too.
What are the challenges of working in Telugu industry?
Telugu is definitely a bigger industry and the atmosphere on the set is rather strict. But everyone is so helpful! I don't know Telugu at all and have no tutors or guides, so I'm on a self-learning mode. But then, my attempts at understanding and getting the tone right turn out to be entertainment for my crew (laughs).
You have been receiving flak from social media for repeated appearances on TV channels and events. How do you look at it?
Well, I'm just a beginner with no background in cinema. I admit I have made some mistakes out of ignorance. All I was trying to do was to promote my film. Seeing me in all the channels might have come across as boring for a section of audience and I understand their point. The reactions were all new to me and they did affect me a bit, but I consider them as learning experiences. I'm still figuring out how the game is played on this field.
We heard that you are planning to discontinue studies'
Yes. It's because of the demanding schedules in Telugu, which would mean I will lose more attendance. And it's not fair that I write the exams without enough of attendance, with other students attending class regularly, right? So, I am thinking of pursuing studies privately. I have not joined anywhere as of now, I might enroll for a programme probably by next year.
