Ranchi: State minister CP Singh on Saturday inaugurated the state's first organized vegetable market at Khadgarha in the city. The G+2 building, built at a cost of around Rs 1.25 crore, can accommodate 400-odd vendors. Sanjiv Vijayavargiya, the deputy mayor of Ranchi Municipal Corporation, said two more market places for wholesale and meat vendors will come up in the city.
"RMC has around 5 acres. Plans are afoot to build for wholesale vegetable market to facilitate 40-45 vendors and another building for 25-30 meat vendors next to this vegetable market," he added. The minister requested all to keep the premises clean and hygienic. "We are also planning to start the beautification process of the nearby Madhukam pond," said Singh.tnn
Vijayavargiya said roadside stalls lead to traffic snarl on Ratu Road. "We are hoping that once the vendors are shifted to the building, the confusion will be reduced to some extent and once the other two buildings are constructed, we can hope that the traffic problem will be reduced by at least 50%," he added.
The minister, however, stressed on cleanliness. "I would request you all to keep the premises clean and hygienic. We are also planning to start the beautification process of the Madhukam pond situated nearby and the road leading to the market will also be reconstructed. The government will provide all facilities but it is in the hands of the public to maintain hygiene," he said.
The remaining area will be converted into a park. The detailed plan report for the two buildings have been made and a tender will soon be floated for its construction. Once the roadside market is shifted to the new building, the traffic problem of Ratu Road is likely to ease a bit.
A local contractor has been given the work of allocation of area to the retail vendors on the rate of Rs. 5 to Rs.20 per day depending on the quantity of vegetables being sold there. The Ranchi Municipal Corporation will get an annual revenue of Rs. 1.5 lakh from the market.
