In a major change introduced across all the platforms the micro-blogging site exists on, Twitter has been granted Hearts in place of the Stars which allowed you to mark posts as Favorite. It’s basically a change in perception of the entire feature that has resulted in the switch-over to the new shape.
Twitter believes that the heart is a universal symbol which is understood despite lingual and cultural boundaries. As the GIF image down below showcases, it can be used to convey a range of different emotions as well.
That is not the case with stars, according to the micro-blogging site. Its creators have found the star to be confusing for newcomers. They have explained their concern with the statement, ‘You might like a lot of things, but not everything can be your favorite.’

This has led the company to embrace the hearts which will serve the purpose of letting you like tweets as well as allowing you to access them later, thus also serving the purpose of the favorite button. Do take note that all the tweets which you have favorited till date will stay as they are, but will appear in the Likes section now.
Twitter-owned Periscope already has hearts as one of its main attracting factors. The Internet powerhouse has also brought them over to one of its other prized possessions, Vine. The changes to this video platform are of similar nature to those of its parent platform.
