Can Mysuru match Cannes in the future?

February 07, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - MYSURU:

If Mysuru gets to host an independent international film festival, can it match the splendour of prestigious international film festivals like the Festival de Cannes in France?

Cannes film festival is world-renowned and top filmmakers from across the globe don’t miss to make it to the film festival.

It has a history of several decades. To understand what makes the Cannes film festival special, a team from Bengaluru visited the French town, to study whether a film festival of the scale of Cannes can be replicated in the State.

The State government had sent the team to Cannes. “I consider Mysuru has the potential which can match Cannes. Mysuru can be developed on the model of Cannes in the years ahead because the city has a charm that makes it special and appropriate for much bigger and brighter film events,” said N.R. Vishu Kumar, director, Department of Information and Public Relations, Mysuru .
