Workshop on renal transplantation today

A Continuing Medical Education on renal transplantation will be organized by the Departments of Urology and Renal Transplantation, and Nephrology, Kasturba Hospital, at the Interact Block on KMC Campus here at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

According to a press release issued here on Saturday, there is an increasing trend in the kidney-related diseases resulting in kidney failure necessitating dialysis and transplantations. This CME covers comprehensively the different issues related to the renal transplantation – both living donor and cadaver. About 200 delegates from across South India had registered for the CME.

Arun Chawla, President of Karnataka Urology Association and also the Organising Secretary of the CME, said: “This conference on renal transplantation has deliberations on the legal and ethical issues, transplantation from cadaver, renal transplantation for children and the surgical and the medical aspects all from an Indian perspective”.

Padmaraj Hegde, Head of the Department of Urology and Ravindra Prabhu, Head of the Department of Nephrology Kasturba Hospital, the Organising Chairpersons said, “The CME will create more awareness and improve the medical, surgical and legal aspects of renal transplantation programmes”.

Experts for the CME include: Sundar S., Deepak Dubey and Ajit Huilgol from Bengaluru, Sanjeev Gulati from New Delhi, Ravindra Sabnis from Nadiad and Umesh Oza from Mumbai.

H. Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor of Manipal University, will inaugurate the workshop, while Poornima Baliga, Dean of Kasturba Medical College, and M. Dayananda, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, will be guests of honour, the release added.
