Nod for ‘Hanumantha Vahana’ procession

February 07, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - TIRUPATI:

With the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) management giving its nod for Sri Kodandarama temple to conduct procession of the deity on ‘Hanumantha Vahana’ on the Amavasya of every month, all eyes are fixed on February 8 when the maiden procession will take place on a grand scale.

The TTD sanctioned the proposal to be conducted on the lines of the ‘Pournami Garuda Seva’ conducted for Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala, on the full moon evening of every month and ‘Gaja Vahana Seva’ for Sri Padmavathi temple in Tiruchanur.

The decision has the backing of the Vaikhanasa Agama, which considers Pournami, Amavasya, Shukla Ekadasi, Krishna Ekadasi, Sravana or Punarvasu stars as the auspicious days for Vaishnava temples.

“Since Lord Hanuman is revered as ‘Sankata Mochana’ (destroyer of evil powers), the Hanumantha Seva will be observed on New Moon Day from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
