Juvenile ‘kills’ again: Was a dutiful ward, quiet and subdued at correctional home, say police

The juvenile has come back to same correctional home from where he had been released two months ago, after he allegedly murdered an elderly woman at her Lodhi colony home last week.

While the city has come to recognise the 17-year-old juvenile for his fatal obsession with dance, inmates and authorities at the correctional home where he was housed remember him a ‘dutiful’ ward.

“When he brought to the home in September last year, the authorities had assigned him the duty of serving all co-inmates and authorities tea from the canteen. He was very quiet and subdued, unlike most boys at the home. He diligently carried out the duties assigned to him during his short stay. This is the report we have on his conduct,” said a senior police officer.

He was sent to the home the first time for allegedly killing a 13-year-old boy, along with another juvenile. The boy might be the first in the capital to be tried under the newly amended Juvenile Justice Act. “We will submit an application to the Juvenile Justice Board, requesting them to consider the provisions of the new law inducted this year,” Surender Kumar, Additional DCP, Delhi Police had said.
The boy, who was obsessed with participating in a reality dance competition, turned unusually quiet after he went back from the home in September.

“It was very hard to gauge on what was going on in his mind. He never shared anything with us and became very tightlipped about everything. Earlier, he used to express his wish to dance and participate in a reality TV show,” said his father. He added, “He would grow even quieter when we probed him about the murder. He always dodged our questions and changed the subject immediately.”
