Village heads manhandle Kokernag BDO

ANANTNAG: A group of panchayat members allegedly assaulted a Block Development Officer (BDO) inside his office in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district on Friday.

Anantnag, February 6

A group of panchayat members allegedly assaulted a Block Development Officer (BDO) inside his office in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district on Friday.

The police, taking cognisance of the incident, have filed an FIR against five village heads of the area. However, no arrest has been made so far.

According to official sources, the group of panchayat heads barged into the office of BDO Kokernag, Rashid Raina, on Friday afternoon and manhandled him.

Raina told The Tribune that the panchayat members were disgruntled with him for not allowing them to meddle with the administrative matters.

“Over the years they had developed a knack of poking their nose into every administrative affair, but since I joined, I have tightened the noose and am not allowing vested interests to come in the way of public interest,” said Raina. — TNS
