HBL PSL T20: Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi notch second win

Peshawar Zalmi helped by an unbeaten half century from Tamim Iqbal (55) and an equally solid 43 from Hafeez during an opening stand of 95 romped to a nine-wicket win over Lahore Qalandars in the second match of the PSL in Dubai on Saturday.

Chasing a modest target of 118, Afridi's side made light of the task replying with 118-1 to be home with four overs to spare.

Tamim completes a well compiled half century, his second in succession. Zalmi 111-1, 15 overs.

Mendis has finally got a breakthrough as Hafeez gives him the charge but it is too little too late. Zalim 95-1, 11.2 overs.

Hafeez steps out and drives Rasool back over his head for a glorious six followed by another maximum over extra cover while Tamim tickles one to the fine leg fence. Zalmi 93-0, 11 overs.

Tamim drives Mendis beautifull through the covers for a boundary as Peshawar are cruising to victory. Zalmi 74-0, 10 overs.

Hafeez pounces on a slower ball from Bravo to crash it to midwicket for a boundary. Zalmi 67-0, 9 overs.

Hafeez slams Rasool over mid-on for a six and is dropped by Zia at square leg while Tamim survives a stumping which was too close to call. Zalmi 32-0, 3 overs.

Tamim is turning it on smashing three boundaries off Zia. Zalmi 23-0, 2 overs.

Hafeez punches Rasool through the covers as Peshawar Zalmi begin chasing 118.

Lahore innings

Lahore Qalandars recovered from a disastrous start to make 117-6 after being put into bat by Peshawar Zalmi.

Kamran takes a superb catch as Bravo edges behind after smashing a couple of boundaries and a thundering six off Riaz. Qaland 107-6, 18.5 overs.

Quetta Gladiators notch second win

Quetta Gladiators motored along to their second consecutive victory in the PSL as Ahmed Shehzad and Luke Wright put up the highest opening stand of 92 in their eight-wicket win over Karachi Kings at the Dubai International Stadium (DIS) on Saturday.

Chasing a target of 148, Gladiators finished with 153 for two in 17.2 overs.

Openers Shehzad and Luke struggled to find their touch in the powerplay but cashed on later.

Luke was unlucky to miss out on a deserving half-century as he got out on personal score of 47 which came off 39 balls with help of two sixes and four boundaries.

Shehzad upped the ante when joined by Kevin Pietersen and almost hit at will before falling on 71, studded with four sixes and five fours.

Pietersen then finished the job with a commanding 17-ball 29 as he struck two sixes and a boundary while skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed remained unbeaten on two.

Shakib al Hasan and Imad Wasim got one wicket apiece.

Earlier, Gladiators restricted Kings to 147 for seven in their 20 overs. Ravi Bopara made 40 while Malik scored 37 - hitting a six and four boundaries.

Mohammad Nabi and Anwar Ali took wickets each.

Shehzad, who was named man of the match, shared that he was happy to get back among the runs and help Gladiators to their second win in PSL.

"Good to be back among the runs and playing a match-winning knock for Quetta Gladiators," Shehzad said.

"It was a really good outing to regain my confidence. I had a good partnership with Luke and we both enjoyed each other's company. He is a top player and a great team man while it was also nice to play Pietersen as he is a world-class player. We all have a good opportunity to learn from the likes of KP and Sir Vivian Richards."

Shehzad further added that Quetta might not have the biggest names in their lineup but the chemistry in the team is really good.

"Quetta may not have the biggest names but they certainly have the best chemistry among the players and management which is allowing players to prosper," he expressed.

He was asked whether this innings would help him retain his place for the World T20, he responded that all he can do is to perform well while rest is upto the selectors as it will not be end of the world for him if not picked.

Pietersen slams Ahmed for a six for the winning hit as Quetta Gladiators romped to an eight-wicket win over Karachi Kings with 16 balls to spare in Dubai on Saturday.

Chasing a competitive target of 148, Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad led the way with a brilliant 46-ball 71 to reply with 153-2 in 17.2 overs.

Luke Wright set the tone with a 39-ball 47 during an opening stand of 92 with Shehzad.

Pietersen gets into his groove by crashing Bopara for a six over midwicket. Gladiators 146-2, 17 overs.

Shehzad slams two consecutive boundaries off Shakib before departing with 10 needed to win. Gladiators 138-2, 16 overs.

Gladiators are now stepping on the gas with Shehzad hitting a boundary and then sending Malik sailing over the ropes with a straight hit. Gladiators 82-0, 10 overs.

Wright is turning it on whacking a huge six off Shakib while Shehzad follows suit. Gladiators 68-0, 9 overs.

Shehzad whacks Tanvir for a flat six which lands on the ropes at midwicket. Gladiators 38-0, 6 overs.

Gladiators get their chase under way with Shehzad and Wright thumping a boundary apiece off Shakib. Gladiators 14-0, 2 overs.

Karachi innings

Karachi Kings recovered from a slow start to make 147-7 thanks to well crafted 69-run partnership between skipper Shoaib Malik (37) and Ravi Bopara (40) after James Vince weighed in with a fluent 30.

It surpassed the previous highest team total in the PSL of 145 made by Peshawar Zalmi.
